4 Tips for Keeping Your Child’s Teeth Healthy

In some cases, the dentist can be a scary place for children. Here at Zwier Dentistry, we want to make sure your children are set for success in having healthy teeth! This means providing you, the parent, with ways to do so! Check out these four tips to keeping your child’s teeth healthy.

Brushing

Start young! As soon as you start to see teeth you can get your child started on brushing. This is typically around three years old. Make sure to use a children’s soft-bristle toothbrush with a very tiny amount of toothpaste— we don’t want them to swallow fluoride. Also make sure that you are monitoring their brushing to ensure safety and proper technique.

Stages of Hygiene

When your child is still a baby, you should make strides to keep their gums clean by taking your finger and rubbing the gums with a cloth after feeding. You should expect your children to start brushing their own teeth at the age of seven with your supervision. Then, at about nine, they should have it under control!

Diet

Your parents told you, now it’s your turn to tell them— “Don’t eat that, it will give you cavities!” By encouraging your child to avoid soda, sugary drinks, candy, and more, you can significantly reduce their chance of cavities.
