Your HSA is a great way to start saving tax-free money for your medical expenses. Your HSA isn’t just used at the doctor’s office, as many dental care services can be covered with your HSA as well.
What is an HSA
An HSA, or Health Savings Account, is a savings account used specifically for paying medical expenses. Withdrawals made from an HSA are completely tax-free, so all money that gets put into the account can be used towards any medical expenses and caries over year after year. An HSA is often associated with a high deductible health plan, offering a way to pay for expenses that aren’t yet covered by insurance. You can deposit as much as you’d like into your HSA every year, if you do not exceed the federally mandated maximum deposit.
What’s Covered By an HSA?
Your HSA will cover regular dental cleanings and check-ups. Services and dental procedures that are commonly included are:
- Root canals
Always check with your dental insurance provider fist to find out what’s covered and what’s not and if an out of pocket co-payment will be required.
What’s Not Covered By an HSA?
While there are many HSA-eligible dental services, not everything dental-related can be covered with an HSA. For example, your HSA cannot be used to pay for toothpaste, dental floss, mouthwash, and other products that fall under general health products.
Dr. Zwier and our team want to make paying for the dental care services you need as easy as possible. That’s why we accept payments made with an HSA for any eligible services. For more information on how to pay with your HSA, contact our office at (616)942-5565.
